Thermal screening made possible with a smartphone

The CAT range of rugged tech has always been popular with our clients, across a wide range of sectors. The S61 smartphone continues to respond to the needs of industry, offering temperature screening functionality for businesses, at an affordable price point.

How does it work?

All physical things, including people, radiate infrared energy which can be detected by a thermal camera. Thermal imaging cameras are very good at identifying anomalies in temperature. If the temperature of the skin is above average, then the individual can be advised to seek further screening.*

The S61 thermal imaging camera is as straightforward to use as a regular smartphone camera and requires no training.

Screening can be carried out at the Government’s current advised safe distance of 2 metres, allowing users to monitor entrances, queues, public transport vehicles, communal areas, and in particular environments where a fixed location camera is not practical.

The S60 series devices can also be tripod mounted for use on reception desks, security gates and other controlled entrance ways. 4G LTE & Wi-Fi connectivity makes it simple to stream everything to a control room (allowing one security guard to manage multiple devises/entry points).

The S61 is waterproof and built to withstand regular scrubbing and exposure to chemicals, bleaches and detergents. Users can fully submerge them frequently in soapy water and/or generously apply available sanitisers.

  • Bleach wipe test with 3000 cycles
  • Alcohol abrasion test with 100 cycles
  • Real world chemical susceptibility test at 60 degree room temp at 95% humidity for 2 days
  • Sweat test at 8.8pH levels for 48 hours
  • The rugged build negates the need for an additional case that can store germs

*NB. There are many reasons why a person may have an elevated skin temperature. Please note that no thermal imaging camera can diagnose Covid-19.
